More Dr. Seuss…

20 Apr

Okay, after doing this TWICE today, I have decided that I really love vinyl!  It is so easy to work with and is so versatile!!  I wanted to do a framed Dr. Seuss poem like I saw on Pinterest, however I didn’t have the vinyl colors.  So I decided to do it with paper and just put it on the white cardstock back ground and frame it.  Well, have you ever tried to transfer a PAPER phrase to something?  Well, you can use transfer paper, and if you put individual glue on each letter before putting it on the paper, it might work, but I’m to lazy for that.

I used the transfer paper, then used spray adhesive and put it on the cardstock background.  Which would have been fine, if I didn’t use the transfer paper again.  But because I tried to use the transfer paper (with the layer of spray adhesive on it btw) it look off the top layer of the letters when I tried to put them on the background!

Then, the great frame I got at Goodwill for $5 (painted silver er, black) did not have the traditional clips I thought they were on the back.  Noooo, these were farmer’s clips that have to be installed with a special staple gun looking tool.  So I had to go back out and find glazier clips that were supposed to work the same way, just easier to install (yeah, right!).  On my way back home, we passed a vinyl sign shop and decided what the heck, and stopped to see if they would be willing to sell some of their product.  He GAVE me the remnants that he couldn’t use in his large plotter for free!!!  (and who doesn’t love free!)  I got red, blue, purple, gold, white, and green, plenty to redo the poem in vinyl, and use the other frame I got from Big Lots for $6!!  I think it turned out GREAT!!  I hope they get a good amount for this basket and that J’s teacher didn’t end up spending alot of her money.

So did you want to see it??  I’m dying to put it up!! 🙂

Dr. Seuss Basket

20 Apr

Yesterday I went to see J’s teacher about the basket their class is doing for the Silent Auction.  J’s class is doing a Dr. Seuss basket and I wanted to find out what she needed.  Yes, I am a little late in the game, but the paper said they were accepting until the 25th.  That’s 5 days, and for those of us who procrastinate.. that’s LOTS of time! LOL!  And since I’m pretty crafty, I wanted to find out what kind of unique things she might want for the basket.  This is her first year teaching, and she has been so wonderful!!

Well, had so much fun doing the accordion scrapbooks the other night, I thought that I would make up a Dr. Seuss one… and I LOVE IT!!  Almost didn’t want to give it away! 🙂

Next I am working on a plaque that has the saying, “The more you read, the more that you know.  The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”  I wanted to do it in vinyl, but didn’t have all the colors, and Walmart has not had anything in stock lately!  I am so glad it carries it though, because we live a pretty good ways from another store (about 30 minutes) that would carry it.  Soooo… decided to use paper instead since I have LOTS of that. Want to know what I found out??  Transfer paper works for paper also!  I cut the sayings out of paper, used the transfer paper to lift it off the mat, then laid it upside down in a box and sprayed it with spray adhesive.  Then put it on the large piece of cardstock I’m using as the background!  Worked great!! Once I finish this up and get a frame (from Goodwill or Dollar Tree, of course!), I’ll post pics of it!  It’s looking good so far, hope it finishes well too! Beth

What I do when I can’t sleep

17 Apr

So I had a pretty rough day yesterday thanks to a nosy neighbor who has decided it is her job to gossip about me to every other family on the block.  It has boiled down to one of the mom’s (who is still a “friend” on Facebook) deciding that instead of just saying no, the kids can’t play, to say yes, then ignore the fact that a 4 year old is sitting on your doorstep waiting for his friend to come out, or sitting at home for 2 hours waiting for his friend to call and say he can play now.

Needless to say, I was up stewing, praying, trying to figure out how to give glory to God in this wilderness and struggling to lean on Him for guidance and support through this.  So, to get my mind off my problems, I craft!  I decided it was finally time to do some of the crafts I had pinned on Pinterest!  I had loved the Accordion Scrapbook from Infarrantly Creative for a while and wanted to try it.  I had everything except the foam core board… so while going through the closet looking for something sturdy to use in it’s place, I was delighted to find that I DID have foam core board!!

I ended up making 2 of them, one is the accordion style fold like Beckie did, and the other I just did a regular back/forth accordion fold.  These will be great for an upcoming wedding and father’s day!!  This would also be good for the end of the year Teacher’s gift filled with pics from the year!

Thanks for reading!!
